Four days ago, I was contacted via Youtube by a gentleman who did the voice of Security Officer Stansun for SWTOR. He found one of my videos of the character and he was wanting to know if I would send him the raw files. After some deliberation, I decided I would get him the video he wanted. I don't keep the raw videos because they take up a lot of space so this meant I had to go do the quest again, which is a Heroic so no big deal*. Then came the fun part of trying to get the videos (pick-up and turn-in) to him. After some searching, and one failed attempt with 4shared, I ended up on Minus. I got the videos uploaded and sent him the link to the private folder so he could download them. He was able to download the videos but not view them because the file types aren't compatible with Mac, apparently, so he asked if I could convert them to mov or mp4.
Well, I was able to find a way to convert them using VLC but when played in Quicktime the video was all jittery; I'm guessing something about the H264 codec but I don't know. I wasn't sure if it was just my Quicktime for Windows or Quicktime period, but it was jittery for him, too. At this point, he thanked me for trying and that was that but I had a thought, one I should have had originally. What if I upload the video to Youtube as I normally would but without the watermark? Considering he was able to take my other video and upload it to his page, this should have been my first thought. Although, to not be so hard on myself, I not only figured he wanted the video without my watermark but that maybe he wanted to do some other kind of editing which would be easier with the raw files. So after this run of trying to get him the raw videos, I ended up just uploading the video as normal but without my watermark. Hind sight and all that, but at least he has the video to use for his demo playlist.
Here is the link to his Youtube page and here is the video he had used.
So I guess my obsession with recording the dialogues paid off because I was able to supply a person with video to use as part of their acting demos. If you take this post as some kind of bragging, I don't mean it that way. It's more of I was surprised to see this in my inbox, and then the trials and tribulations of figuring out how best to share the video. I'm not real knowledgeable when it comes to certain aspects of computers and video editing, I only have Windows Movie Maker (I miss some options from the old version) to edit my videos and it doesn't do conversions; VLC was trial and error trying to convert the videos. That, and I like talking/sharing even if it's not reciprocated.
P.S. I'm fairly certain I vaguely remember the episode (and his character) of The West Wing he was in, as well.
*I had thought about telling him he should play the game and go talk to himself, not to be rude but wouldn't it be kind of strange to be talking to yourself like this?
